Pläj - A Scandinavian Play on California Cuisine

Pläj - pronounced 'play' - has it's roots in Scandinavian cuisine but through a California lens. It's located in a beautifully decorated space inside the Inn at the Opera. Many of the ingredients used are a mix of Nordic origin and from the West Coast.

Tasteful decoration from the owners - we loved all the little touches of details like the bulb chandelier.

If you've never had caramelized leek butter before, it'll blow your mind. We couldn't get enough of it, along with the freshly baked bread.

The cocktails here are top notch. Pictured here is the Swedish Gold: Farallon Gin, Mustard & Dill Shrub, Lemon, Honey, Cracked Black Pepper.

Beet Cured Gravlax: sorrel sorbet, rye crumble, lemon creme fraiche - the flavor profiles on this dish were so interesting. Who would have thought to combine gravlax with sorrel sorbet? Incredible.

Råraka & Caviar: potato røsti, skagen cream, whitefish caviar. One of my favorite dishes of the night. They included a little piping bag of caviar to top each potato round. If you're a fan of caviar, potato, and fish - this is the one to get.

Local Halibut: spring onion, Sausalito watercress, fennel, coriander flowers. Perfectly cooked halibut with just the right amount of fennel sauce and roe on top.

Northern Lights: chocolate terrine, passion fruit sorbet, soft meringue. An absolute must if you're visiting here. It doesn't look like what it should taste like - in a good way!

Overall, this is one of the more memorable meals I've had in San Francisco. All the ingredients were of the highest quality, with the flavor profiles well thought out. If you're looking to celebrate a special occasion or explore Nordic cuisine, this is the place to do it.
